I Help Kids Love Their Writing

Brianne Wragg

I’ve been captivated by the power of a story since a young age.

This passion led me to pursue a degree in Arts and Education at ACU Melbourne, Australia. After years of working as an international English teacher in Dubai, Myanmar, Japan, the UK, and Australia, and as a freelance ghostwriter and editor, I realized my true superpower mixes the two as a mentor and coach, specifically focusing on writing and creativity in young minds.

Thus, Creative Gen was born – a sanctuary where imagination meets guidance.

The Writing Coach Your Child Always Wanted

My approach has always been to become the writing coach and mentor that I wanted when I was young.

Someone who has my back, has no other agenda other than supporting me in my pursuit of my creative interests and passions; help me make my writing or creative projects better than I could ever imagine.

This means I work with children on passion projects, writing and other creative pursuits, giving the freedom to be creative, while offering guidance and mentorship on the craft.

Day-to-Day, my writers are primarily eager artists, animators, novelists, amateur bloggers, investigators and journalists between the ages of 10-16-years-old. I’ve worked with kids who love writing everyday, and others who want to write more.

I work as both a writing coach and a mentor. Sessions include editing sessions before publishing, feedback sessions on new chapters, and skills and design sessions, all focused on making their aspirations and dreams a reality.

I believe that any child can learn to write. But the only way to become a better writer is to write daily – for kids, that only happens when they enjoy writing. To enjoy writing, kids need the freedom to explore, write, and be creative on their own terms for their own creative purposes. I don’t tell kids what to write or create. I’m just their creative guide and mentor!

5 Things You May Not Know About Me

CREATIVE CATALYST & ASPIRING COACH

Besides mentoring in writing, I am currently pursuing a diploma in coaching. I believe that writing is not just about honing skills but about mindset, exploring ideas, and nurturing interests. My approach blends creative guidance with coaching principles, providing a holistic environment for young writers to flourish.

I’M A DESCHOOLED TEACHER

Leaving the traditional teaching environment was a challenging but transformative decision. It took me two years to deschool myself from the conventional education system and rethink my perspective on education and my role within it. Becoming a ghostwriter and editor was a turning point, reshaping my confidence and understanding of what it truly means to be a writer.

I’M A JET

My journey in team sports, particularly basketball, has greatly influenced my approach to mentoring. As a shooting guard and small forward for my local district, I earned the nickname ‘Gadget’ thanks to my long arms, which were an asset for stealing and causing turnovers. The discipline, training, strategy, and agility from my basketball days are elements I bring into my writing workshops, emphasizing collaboration, quick thinking, and adaptability.

I’M A GHOSTWRITER

Over the years, I’ve ghostwritten for notable consulting firms, coaching businesses, eCommerce ventures, and have contributed to several non-fiction and memoir books. You might have come across my work without even knowing it. It’s only in the past six months that I’ve begun sharing my thoughts under my name in my blog “The Blurb,” taking a step further into the world of personal expression.

MYSTERY IS MY GUILTY PLEASURE

While I’m drawn to the suspense and intricacies of mystery novels – from Christie to Doyle, Larsson to King, and the captivating series by Holly Jackson – my writing takes a different path. I enjoy unraveling the puzzles in these stories, yet I don’t typically weave mysteries in my writing. This genre fuels my imagination and but I don’t see me following in Christies shoes.

The Secret Keeper

The Secret Keeper

The old woman finally spoke, her voice barely above a whisper, yet it permeated the room with a ghostly resonance. “Secrets are heavy burdens. To release them, one must be prepared for the void they leave behind. It can be filled with something far weightier.”
